SEO and GEO: how to get your company found by Google and AI

TL;DRSEO is optimizing a website to appear in search results. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is organizing content so that AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity understand your company and cite it. Both rely on the same foundation: clear HTML content, direct answers, structured data, consistent information and fast pages.

For years, being online meant being on the first page of Google. Now many people ask an AI assistant directly and get a ready-made answer that mentions a few companies. The question has changed: does the AI know your company?

What SEO is and what GEO is

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the work of making a website relevant and well structured for search engines. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) applies the same care to generative engines: making content so clear, organized and trustworthy that the AI understands who you are, what you do and where you work, and then cites you in its answer.

6 practical fixes for your website

1. Say exactly what you do

“Innovative solutions” says nothing. “Marketing and branding agency in Ponta Grossa, Brazil” does. Service, location and audience need to be written in the page copy.

2. One page per service

A single page with everything makes life hard for Google and AI. One page per service, with a description, what's included and frequently asked questions, answers exactly what people ask.

3. Answer questions directly

Lead with the answer, then explain. Q&A blocks and summaries at the top of articles are easy to understand and easy to cite.

4. Use structured data

Schema.org markup tells search engines, in machine language, that you are a business, where you are, which services you offer, which questions you answer and who wrote each article.

5. Keep your information consistent

The same name, address, phone and description on your website, Google Business Profile, Instagram and directories. Mismatched information creates distrust, for people and machines.

6. A light site that doesn't depend on JavaScript

If content only appears after heavy scripts load, some crawlers won't read it. Fast pages with the text already in the HTML are read by everyone.

What about llms.txt?

It is a recent proposal: a text file at the root of a website that summarizes, for language models, who the company is and which pages matter most. It's not an official standard yet, but it is simple to maintain and does no harm.

That is the logic we used to build this website: pages per service, detailed case studies, three languages, structured data and content ready to be read by people and machines. If you want the same for your company, see our websites and landing pages service.

Frequently asked questions

Does GEO replace SEO?

No. GEO builds on the same foundation as SEO, such as quality content, clear structure and authority. The difference is the focus on being understood and cited by AI assistants.

How long does it take to show up in AI answers?

There is no guaranteed timeline. It depends on when search engines and models read the site again and on the brand's authority. Clear, consistent content increases the odds over time.
